Check here if you need any kind of buying guide for a game, and really don't think the magazines know what they're talking about.

  • Don't listen to mass media.  If the game interests you yourself, then check it out.
  • Don't believe ALL the hype unless it's confirmed.  Halo LOOKED nice but it's not that original when you get down to it.
  • Don't be angry because *developer* didn't include *feature*.  They probably didn't include *feature* for a good reason.
  • If a game is rare, and you hear people talking about it and challenging each other, it must be a good game.  But this is only if it's -rare-.  If it's mainstream, then it's a corporate cash cow.
  • Same name as a movie?  DON'T GET IT.  Movies have never transitioned well into games.  *shivers remember Back to the Future for the NES*
  • Same name as a cartoon?  Your call there.  Cartoons haven't done TOO bad in transitioning to games, but to be honest Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 & Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 are VERY WELL worth it if you're a DBZ fan.

That's all for right now.  Feel free to add to the list.

What about GoldenEye 007 and Chronicles of Riddick:escape from Butcher Bay? (also, this) But yeah, movie-based games usually suck. *cough*AVGN's Back to the Future review*cough*
