I'll update throughout the day.

PART 1: KNOW YOUR ENEMY
Honestly, the quicker you make the mistake of underestimating an enemy on RE4, the quicker you'll find yourself food for Del Lago.

Ganados"Matelo!"

Appearance: The first type of Ganados appear as villagers with red eyes, who all look a bit aged. Once you reach the island you'll meet the commandos, you are a lot tougher and smarter. They also wear military gear, take more hits, and use smarter tactics than those of the villagers.

Frequency: Highest
Power: Depends on weapon, and point in game.
Threat: Individually, very little. May depend on weapon/situation as well. Crowds can be a pain though, especially with Commandos.
Weapons: Throwing weapons (sickles mostly), Crossbows, farming items, axes, dynamite, rocket launchers, torches. Certain commandos have electric batons that stun you and leave you open for follow-ups.
Items Dropped: Ammo (for all guns), pesetas (usually from 100 to 2300 ptas)

Attacks: Basic Weapon Attack/throw/shoot weapon, grab and strangle.

Weaknesses: Bad Reaction time (Village Ganados), Knee-Capping (enables swift kick action), Headshots (Normal Ganados and Commandos, at least).

Strategy:

Once again, this is variable upon where you're located, how much ammo/space you have, and your skill. Pistols work fairly well, especially at the beginning of the game. Torchs and dynamite can be shot for a nice reversal of fortune, and also save you money. It's probably be in your best interest to keep them in front you. Also, being smart about who you kill first in a group far away can prevent you from being spotted too early. You can have all kinds of fun killing these guys, just make sure you keep a Flash Grenade on you for good measure.  :) If you find yourself surrounded, pull your shotgun out and pump a few shells. These guys are rarely difficult enough to require any other weapons, sans a rifle for the guys on ledges and such. Grenades also work well against crowds.

Conserving Ammo: shooting them in the leg will either knock them to the ground or their knees. Simple run up, hold L, and slice them with the  knife.

Added Fun: As easy as the Ganados are to kill, just about any weapon is fun to kill these guys with. Get creative, but don't get yourself killed in the process. They can fall off of most ledges, towers, etc. This is also great for saving ammo as many falls spell instant death.

Los Iluminados

Appearance: Pale dudes with tattoos and a make-up, wearing either a black, red or purple robe (or Blacksmithing clothes). A bit more powerful than Ganados, they're also a hell of a lot smarter. They'll be surrounding you, trapping you, and springing traps on you a lot. Of the normal enemies, they usually pose the biggest threat. Thanks to the architechure of the castle, and the myriad of situations you must face them in, they're even harder than even commando ganados. To be more specific....

Normal/Shielded Enemies: Can be of Black, Blacksmith, or purple variety.
Frequency: Very high. Almost as common as Ganados
Power: Medium (for the most part)
Threat: Thanks to Ashley, and the castle, it can be a pretty decent challenge
Weapons: Maces, scythes, crossbows, rocket launchers.
Items Dropped: Money, Ammo, Herbs

Attacks: Basic lunging melee attacks, sheild knockdown, crossbow shot. Some enemies with scythes will throw them at you. Don't get hit by them.
They also activate traps and are stationed at catapults frequently.

Weaknesses: Kneecaps, Heads (though some wear armored masks), kneeling anim prompts you for suplex action.

Strategy: Treat these guys like Ganados, but with a more straightforward approach. Avoid staying in open areas too often, they like to swarm. and gang-rape you with those maces of there's. Shotguns are probably your best bet here, as you fight more crowds than anything.

Red/Leader Enemies Always Red
Frequency: Not too common.
Power: High defense. They don't attack too much.
Threat: Very Low. Once you've routed their buddies, you can just pick them apart.
Weapons: Huh? Weapons? These guys rarely have any. There's the one guy who jumps on the gattling gun, but otherwise I don't recall them having anything powerful.

Weaknesses: They'll usually die before kneeling, so just aim for the head (when they don't have the mask on) and punp 'em.

Strategy: Just fill them with holes. Killing a red first seems to be beneficial to fighting groups, instead of him "leading" them after you. Rifles are probably your best bet, as many of them you'll fight at mid to far range.

Conserving Ammo: Kneecapping  and suplexing works rather well; it can kill rather easily if the enemy is weak enough. Knifing is great for single enemies trying to do the grab attack. There are also quite a bit of lamps to use throughout the castle. Just shoot them down and you've saved yourself a few shells. And since they usually walk side by side, it's not too hard to the three in one shot.

Added fun:Anything the results in them being blown to bits. Seriously, these guys are fucking annoying to the point that the only thing satisfying enough is leaving them in pieces. The Minethrower is funny as shit, save for those times where you're surrounded. You'll probably end up using your hand grenade often anywho, so make sure you aim them in a crowd.

Quote from: Vansi think it's better if you shoot them in the head, kick them and then slice them to death, the ganados that is.

And if they have "tentacles" don't forget to have your Flash Grenades Handy  ;)

Don't worry, I was getting to the Plagas infected enemies. Hence me saying "normal." Also, I did mention your strat, see conserving ammo. Useless later in the game and when surrounded, though.
