Fortunately this is the last real Battle Network game, sadly a spin off was already announced...

However despite this, Battle Network 6 does a fairly nice job of being the last game in the series, and may dare I say be as good as Battle Network 3?

Gameplay: The soul system from BN4 and 5 is gone, and is no more. It is now replaced with the Cross System, which is similar in that it gives you abilities from the navi you get it from, but is not turn limited. The tradeoff, however is if you are hit with the element you are weak to, you automatically get forced out of the Cross, the old element system from BN1-5 returns with a few more, Lock-on<Air<Sword<Breaking<Lock-on. In addition, there are Beast Outs, which allow you to do powerful attacks, but there is only one per version and end after three turns (at which point you are fucked.). If you feel brave if you use a Beast Out while using a Cross, you can before a Cross Beast, which allows you to do absurdly powerful things, at the price of looking stupid and being fucked after the turn is over. Blatantly returning features include the Navi Customizer, default chip selection, and the traditional things. At various points in the game, in order to get a cross you have to help the Navi you get it from and then battle him, you can then later use this Navi on the Net, which in addition to being forced into doing at various points, also lets you get pass certain types of barriers. There's also this stupid Virus Battling thing that lets you breed viruses and attack other viruses with them, in other words it's stupid. There's no Tournament System, and no Liberation Missions which means... yes it plays like 1, 2 and 3, amazing isn't it? That fact alone makes this game somewhat more tolerable than the last two.

Music: Not bad, not great. The fact that this game is doomed to play the "caution music" after beating the game is somewhat annoying however. Typical Battle Network faire I guess. About on par with BN5.

Translation: This one is a tad special... the actual translation is fairly decent, I'm not kidding. The only real note for concern is the names really in the actual plot translation, some of them just plain suck. AquaMan's name was changed to SpoutMan, as Capcom was tired of DC Comics trying to sue them.

However, and yes this is worthy of a second paragraph, BN6 suffers from the same thing as BN5 in the removal of a few areas. Unlike BN5 which removed a few areas in the networks you go through the game, BN6 nuked part of the Undernet and secret area, not a particularly wise maneuver, especially as I was looking forward to that first part in the secret area to see if they'd still call YamatoMan, JapanMan...

All Boktai content was also removed, save the Gun Del Sol series of chips. If you hack the Django and Hakushaku chips they do not work, and the Immortal Area no longer exists and as such neither does the Hakushaku fight. This was apparently done by request of Konami, as they have no plans to release Boktai 3 after Boktai 2 didn't sell to well (see that's what happens when you make gimmicky games.). To try and make up for this Capcom added in the last 10 secret help missions to the English version after beating the game, they use to be e-reader required. Despite this, this section still lost half of its points due to the removed content, had the content stayed this probably would have got 10 as the games grammar is fine.

Length: Given it follows the 1-3 format, it's fairly long. Although with the removal of the Hakushaku side quest it is a tad on the short side.

Rehash Factor: The traditional Navi rehashing returns (albeit to a much less greater extent). In Gregar, HeatMan and ElecMan return, in Falzar TomahawkMan and Aq... SpoutMan return. ACDC returns in its 4-5 form, and is largely watered down, as you really can't go anywhere there now. Finally, because this was the last game, Capcom decided to be random and put modified versions of the strongest PA's, or signature attacks, from the previous five games. Despite this, the game does a far better job of having newer content than 4-5 did.

Plot: The game's basic plot is Lan moves to a new town cause his dad got a job there, and then bad things happen he meets a strange girl named Iris, he learns of the legend of some Cyber Beasts, and eventually absorbs one to stop it from rampaging. More bad stuff happens, then he learns the WWW is involved, and Colonel is working with them. There are a bunch of sub-plots involving various members of the WWW and there reasons for joining or becoming treacherous in some cases. There's some rather obvious plot twists involving Iris (especially if you played X4 in which case they are even more obvious). In the end Wilys plan is ruined and he reforms, and Lan's class graduates and they reference people from previous games (dude they fucking reference SkullMans operator who was in the series for all of like 4 seconds). The game then jumps forward twenty years and explains the fate of the characters, albeit it's all in text, it's still a good way to officially axe the series.

That's right, I gave a BN game a perfect here; it is quite odd is it not?

Difficulty: This game is watered down for some reason and is pretty easy compared to the previous ones. There are tedious areas, but this game still is pretty easy, the final boss in either version is a joke.

Total: 75/100 = 75 %

Too little too late it would seem, Capcom.

Positive:

Negative: The sub-plot with Ito, Vic and Yukiha ended rather abruptly. They could have improved that slightly, but it's still not enough for me to really warrant a dock in points, but I still wanted it to be mentioned.
