Title: General gaming news
Post by: Jesuszilla on April 11, 2012, 06:24:37 PM
For shit that doesn't deserve its own thread, but is still noteworthy.

Wonder what took so long for this thread to be here  :P

Also, EA gonna have some explaining to do with Games Workshop (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-12-ea-accused-of-copying-warhammer-40k-tanks-for-command-and-conquer-tiberium-alliances)

Yeah, at least I saw it before it got taken down.

Not sure if this should be gaming news or general, but it's Valve-related so I might as well throw it here:

MvC2 announced for iPhone and the like. (http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/apr/20/marvel-vs-capcom-2-announced-apple-ios-platforms-screen-shots/)

This would be kind of cool except after Capcom handled the Mega Man X port.....yeeeeeeeeah I'll pass. That and I've pretty much sworn off of buying Capcom games until they get their shit together, and I MEAN IT THIS TIME

It doesn't help that I'm more interested in getting an Android anyway.
Title: Re: General gaming news
Post by: Jesuszilla on April 20, 2012, 01:34:59 PM
LOL. Good luck with that, Capcom.

Why not just bring it to a plausible platform like, I dunno, the VITA?!
Title: Re: General gaming news
Post by: Brandy Bogard on April 20, 2012, 10:18:42 PM
That's asking too much from the same company who dropped frames on an alleged port of a game on hardware that iPhone/iPad etc. easily run rings around and having PS3 exclusive characters on-disc on the 360.

aaaaaaaand i was right (http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/apr/24/gameplay-footage-ios-version-marvel-vs-capcom-2-touch-screen-controls/)

Although they do get points for including the original intro.

Anyone else notice how they mashed LK several times? Remember what happened in the original when you hit a light strength twice? Yeaaaahhhhhhh....

Also looks like they fucked up the super background.

One punch and one kick button, judging from the video.

YEAH, THIS WILL TOTALLY CONVINCE ME TO GET AN IPAD. (or the port itself if it comes to Android)

Also what the fuck did they do to the logo?!

Congrats.  You hit 100,000. (http://www.facebook.com/GetMeOffTheMoon)

Too bad Legends is too niche to actually sell 100,000 units on launch for a prototype version.

They took NINE months to get to this point. Not to mention the past months abrupt and sudden growth is shady looking at best.

For fuck sakes move on.

Nintendo lost $533.8 million last year. (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2012/04/nintendo-pinning-hopes-on-3ds-sales-to-turn-around-historic-annual-loss.ars)

Considering their fuckup with the 3ds I can't say I'm surprised.
Title: Re: General gaming news

Every time I look at a 3DS I just imagine "The Lonely Man" theme.

Speaking of which, that's another damn good reason to keep Legends 3 cancelled.

In related news Nintendo will NOT reveal the price of the Wii U at this years E3 (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5905602/nintendo-wont-be-revealing-the-wii-us-price-at-e3), despite it being scheduled for a worldwide 2012 launch.

They're probably trying to balance not having another disaster like the 3DS price cut and still being able to make profit on each unit, which they don't on the 3DS anymore.

Also New Super Mario Bros 2 will be offered as a digital title (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5905603/new-super-mario-bros-2-will-be-nintendos-first-proper-downloadable-game) or retail, something unheard of for the company.
Title: Re: General gaming news
Post by: Jesuszilla on April 26, 2012, 09:08:57 PM
They probably have some hidden "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY" weapon. That is the only explanation.

Title: Re: General gaming news

Capcom's not desperate enough to pander to you idiots who create facebook groups whose target is equivalent to the total sales of most modern Megaman games on the DS (http://www.rockmancorner.com/2012/05/100000-strong-milestone-has-no-bearing.html).

They didn't manage their target goal within a suitable amount of time.  By now, Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Edition would probably be far out of it's market testing phase, and canned because sales proved to be only marginally better than, say, Megaman ZX Advent.

I still wonder why they chose Zangief to be one of the bad guys when he and Honda actually teamed up to rescue all of the dolls from the Shadaloo base when it was about to blow up in Alpha 3.
Title: Re: General gaming news
Post by: Tyrannosaurus Reich on May 05, 2012, 11:59:19 AM
To be fair, he WAS a bad guy in the live action movie, so that's one time at least. Plus you could argue that he's really brutal in matches so that could kind of make him a bad guy, in a sense. Then again Akuma DESTROYS YOUR SOUL in fights and he's way more of a bad guy....actually, forget what I said, I don't want Akuma anywhere near this movie.

But yeah, they should have used another Capcom villain. I would have liked to see Dr. Wily myself.

QuoteAccording to GameFront, parent company IGN has stated that they, "Believe that the idea of a single-purpose PC download site like FilePlanet is one that, unfortunately, has passed."

They also noted that everyone who was working at the site has been moved to other projects.

So, if you've been storing your old Quake mods over at FilePlanet, now might be a good time to move them.

:(

There's a banner on Fileplanet that says "Note: FilePlanet is no longer being updated and is in the process of being archived," so hopefully (key word: hopefully) the content there should be here to stay. Doesn't excuse what they did to their webhosting services (Classicgaming, Quakeworld and the like) though.

Thank goodness the Star Fox-Metroid crossover idea was stupid.

In other news the studio responsible for the Mortal Kombat reboot is making a DC fighting game. (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/31/warner-bros-announces-injustice-gods-among-us-a-new-dc-fighti/) No not Mortal Kombat Vs. DC just DC.

Presently confirmed characters include Batman, Superman, the Flash, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor and Solomon Grundy.

SOLOMON GRUNDY WANT PANTS TOO

Could be fun. Though I don't like the implications of the story as to why they're fighting each other, but hey, it's about time we get a fighting game that's just DC characters.

To be fair Nintendo hasn't had anything to do with the production of Nintendo Power since 2007 when they sold the magazine rights to some other guys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Publishing) (who produce pretty much many tech related magazine in the US including the official XBox  and Playstation magazines) but now have decided not to renew the license or even make it an online publication.

Guess they asked for too much from Nintendo or something in the negotiations.

SEGA has agreed to purchase Relic, developer of Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
Koch Media (owner of Dead Island publisher Deep Silver) has agreed to purchase Saints Row developer Volition as well as the publishing rights to the Metro franchise.

What changes could they possibly make that'd be big enough for a new console? Not trying to be pessimistic— just realistic. Honestly, I think the current generation should be the last. They kinda lost their killer app since Rockstar went multi-platform with GTA, Metal Gear Solid should be over (soon), and they haven't done shit with Parappa other than add him to PlayStation All-Stars which means absolute jack shit if you look at every crossover fighting game/brawler ever.

MAYBE if they bring back Parappa with some sort of rap name to compete and set it apart from the Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, and Rock Band crap, that could be it. I'd be interested regardless, but I still need to put my own tastes aside and try to think of the casual public. Of course, they have inFamous and Uncharted, but I'm unsure just how popular those games really are.

Funny, if they did that, they'd be giving up over half their market. 360 was the budget power console; cheaper than the PS3 at its introduction, after all. By making users require an internet connection would be alienating the boonies of their current userbase.

Capcom will be releasing yet another SF4 update, this one will port in some SFxT characters (Rolento, Elena, Hugo and Poison) and a "character never seen in Street Fighter before". (http://shoryuken.com/2013/07/13/rolento-elena-hugo-poison-heading-to-street-fighter-iv-in-update-fifth-character-never-seen-before/)

The wording of the last one has me thinking they'll just port over Haggar from MVC3.

So, that rules out Maki (they said it would be someone WHO HAS NOT BEEN IN STREET FIGHTER, so why would you even suggest that?), Haggar, and Kyosuke.

... Forte. Has to be.

Probably another Final Fight character that hasn't been in a fighting game like Edi. E, Belger (with Cyborg Belger and Zombie Belger alternate outfits) or any of the various other grunts.

OR if they count SFxT as a crossover game and not a Street Fighter game they could, in theory anyways, have a guest Tekken character provided they threw enough money at Namco. That seems unlikely though.

They're talking about this video game Capcom published a few months back (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remember_Me_(video_game)). It was rather forgettable.

So it's not that likely.

  • It is a Capcom character.
  • It isn't Asura or Bad Box Art Mega Man.
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV will mark this character's fighting game debut.
  • It is a character that isn't on anyone's radar.
  • The character will be a perfect fit for the Street Fighter universe.

Perfect fit, not on anyone's radar... I'm starting to think it's either Sho from Captain Commando or maybe even Super Joe from Commando (Arcade, NES). I seem to be the only person who remembers the original Commando since it was a big part of my childhood (because it was the only game that could run without having to constantly use tricks to get the NES to work).

So, that rules out Maki (they said it would be someone WHO HAS NOT BEEN IN STREET FIGHTER, so why would you even suggest that?), Haggar, and Kyosuke.

... Forte. Has to be.

Well that proves for sure Nintendo realized 3D wasn't enough to sell the system if they're making a version without the feature at all. (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/introducing-the-nintendo-2ds-no-thats-not-a-typo-1214807721) Would think after how many name confusion problems they've had over their products they'd name it something else though.

3D Realms are back (in Interceptor-helmed form) and are offering pretty much their whole back catalog (https://3drealms.com/catalog/3d-realms-anthology_50/) for sale. (Save for games that they've made freeware, Prey and Max Payne). And they've got a thing for indie devs too coming up apparently.
