Wii Firmware 4.2 has bricked several UNMODDED Nintendo Wiis (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5372065/wii-update-42-is-killing-wiis-dead) as there seems to be a high probability of the download crashing during installation causing the Wii to go batshit insane.
Nintendo is offering free repair but if you have a Wii it would probably in your best interest to hold off on this update.
Does nobody in the industry test their updates any more?
Nintendo's probably more concerned with recouping lost revenue due to modding by making it harder, than testing.
Doesn't help matters when you consider how stupid the Wii's OS architecture is and how it could be horribly prone to failure.

Just a bit of an update from Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/01/wii-system-update-4-2-bricking-unmodded-consoles/), this update modifies the fucking bootloader itself, which why if anything goes wrong the shit really hits the fan.
They also recommend staying the fuck away from Update 4.2.
The symptoms of poorly designed architecture, definitely.
