Regardless of what you thought of Nintendo's E3 show (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/37555.html), Nintendo's recently made some questionable decisions. I've been meaning to make this topic for a while but have been busy actually working on Slot Machine and kept forgetting about it.
1. Nintendo did not inform devs of the Wii Motion plus (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/wii-third-parties-nonplussed-by-surprise-motionplus-reveal/), making it impossible for games like The Force Unleashed to use it, which has made some devs quite mad.
1.5: Also there's no getting around the fact Wii Motion Plus really is only making the Wii work LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FROM THE BEGINING, GOD.
2. Nintendo apologized for it's E3 coverage. (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/23/iwata-sorry-for-nintendo-e3-briefing-wii-supplies-may-still-b/) Also somehow they'll still have shortages this holiday for the third year in a row. Either this is deliberate or Nintendo has the logistic skills of a 12 year old.

Personally none of this matters to me as Hogs of War 2 was said to be released on the Wii.
That alone overshadows everything.
Nintendo no longer cares anymore. Best to just look at it like that. They have their money maker that sells thousands of consoles over a Wiifit thing that isn't actualy true exercise. I don't hate casual gaming as alot of times I like to play some "for fun" games just to take a load off when I'm bored or if it's just fun to do so, but they ripped into it dumbing down game after game after game knowing the easier it is the more it'll sell.
That reminds me, I still need to pick up Wii Fit sometime.

So now that Nintendo's already developing a true next-gen console and a new Gameboy I wonder what they'll switch to now and it makes me wonder why they didn't announce them at E3..where you know stuff like that could of greatly improved their conference. :P
They'll design a controller with only 1 button to make it easy for the causals and their mini game fests.
6. Capcom stated MegaMan 1 would be released on Nintendo's VC on August 4th even going through the trouble of posting it on their blog. Similarly, SNK said Samurai Shodown II would be released on August 4th and Hudson said they'd release Ys Book I & II on August 4th.
August 4th we got, a shitty Master System version of Sonic and Splatterhouse (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5033059/the-great-virtual-console-switcheroo), because Nintendo decided those other releases didn't need to come out right now. Thanks Nintendo for once again stepping on the feet of devs, I'm sure they appreciate it.

Mario Galaxy was only considered good because it was compared to Mario Sunshine. The head Josef Golbells transplanted on the head of a giant preying mantis compares favorably to Mario Sunshine. Mario Galaxy is really just Mario 64 but in space and instead of pressing a button to attack you waggle the controller, WHOOPIE.
TP's Gamecube version is regarded as being better. Fundementally the game was a Gamecube port with arbitrary Wii controls tacked on where they were never suppose to go in the first place. As I mentioned above waggling the control to do something that you could do with a button isn't really that big of a change.
And well Wario Ware LOL thats an example of the casual mini game bullshit that the Wii is.
Wario Ware's like Mario Party, except... Y'know, far more awesome.
The Wario Ware series of games have been a series of mini-games ever since the first game of it's kind. It's kinda hard to really generalize it like that, because it's not Wario Land with a bunch of mini-games tacked on. It's Wario Ware, the -only- mini-game time attack.

Unless the game's a worldwide launch, chances are we won't hear about a release until 2009. Though it's good to know that Namco's using the Klonoa character again.
It comes out December 4th in Japan.
I remember reading that the sequel didn't have a release date for the US and it eventually came out.

I just read through the article and I really can't believe Nintendo is about to do something like that to the fanbase. Not like they NEED the money and new sales over used. Way to stick it to the millions and millions of people that bought the console and this being one of the only games you really pushed at E3 to begin with. $50 isn't much considering other games that are priced higher and with less replay value and overall game time, but this is shit and they know it. Nintendo better find a better way to do this rather then screwing the people who buy used.

It is my saddening yet true view of Nintendo and how they've lost my backing over the course of the past few years.
They introduced to us the Nintendo Wii, a console whose method of control was to purely let us get involved with our games, to fight our own way beyond the level of button-pushing and stick-tilting. However, they've failed to deliver an effective title that really grabs everybody in and tells them "This is what the Wii is all about". Instead, they've chosen to release a "casual" line-up of games, replacing the image that they gave us years ago when the Wii was just at E3 and TGS. Wii Sports, Wii Music, Wii Fit, Wii Play... Those are hardly what the Wii should be about. It ends up being up third-party publishers to decide what the Wii "is".
As such, the Wii has been decided to be an fully outright disappointment to publishers, with big name developers outright insulting the console for it's lack of graphical power and seeming difficulty to code. Nintendo fails to help this image by releasing 1st-party games that often fail to be lasting in any way (Mario Kart Wii) or are so aimed at younger audiences that the rest of their fanbase feels alienated (Super Mario Galaxy). Nintendo has failed there, in the games department.
Nintendo has obviously decided, with titles that fail (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5088081/wii-music-total-sales-bust), that the next big thing is simply not worth it. Nintendo does not care about making the next memorable game, they simply just want more money (http://corrupt, adulterating shitbags.com/5084977/now-nintendo-are-going-after-used-games). Add to that, how their European branch completely just bashed every single gamer of today's generation, right in front of us who were likely once a part of that generation if not ARE a part of that demographic. I knew Nintendo of Europe were morons, but... Wow.
It doesn't help that Nintendo are hounds for "innovation" with the simplest of concepts when what they're looking for in innovation already has a working formula. For example, F-Zero. What is there to get wrong? Fast, futuristic, crazy tracks, catchy music. Star Fox? Flying ships, things that go boom, 360 degree flying freedom. For crying out loud, it even worked on the Nintendo DS. But since Nintendo has obviously discarded all but their Mario & Link involved franchises, it's safe to say that those of us who liked F-Zero and Star Fox are going to have to push for some third-party developer to convince Nintendo. That's probably the only reason we got Star Fox: Assault and Star Fox: Command.
Nintendo has, in essence, simply just abandoned that which supported it for years, and I feel that just because Brain Age was successful doesn't mean they shouldn't be riding the high horse of casual gaming. Last I checked, Electronic Arts had their casual gaming label fall faster than a boulder. I really hope that Nintendo changes their "vision" and attempt to re-capture the experiences that made their past games so great. Because as it is, they're already a joke in the minds of a lot of gamers. Their fanbase is going to start calling them out on it some time soon.
