Title: Team Fortress 2 Thread
Post by: UHMEEEEBA on December 17, 2009, 07:37:41 PM
At Jango's suggestion I have created a TF2 thread for all future TF2 matters to be posted in.

Solider won, he got some gun powered boots that greatly reduce damage from rocket jumping, (http://www.teamfortress.com/war/victory/) which makes sense as the Demoman can sticky jump so I can see why it was considered for both classes. They take up the secondary weapon though.

Also some new maps. (http://www.teamfortress.com/war/maps/)

This update also nerfed the fuck out of The Sandman again, now it only stuns if it hits at maximum range, so yeah have fun with that.

Thank God. Sandman is annoying as hell.

Most of the servers I used to play on have fucking died though.

Well I suppose it would have been useful for flying drunks but besides that...

Oh and new domination quotes:

"It's on like zzzzzz...."

Oh well, while I'm here I might as well document what I'm unofficially calling The Adventures of J/K (Jango and K.O.D.), which will chronicle our TF2 adventures where we annoy the fuck out of unsuspecting TF2 players.

Day One: Wednesday (12/16/09)
Arena: CP_Egypt

Me and my team fucking sucked while KOD's team kept killing us. I publically bashed my own teammates and KOD said that we lack teamwork. I said he was gay. This was resolved later on when the teams were autobalanced and he and I were on the RED Team together defending the points. We both turned into Engineers, camped on the last checkpoint, and both built Lv.3 Sentries right next to Lv.3 Dispensers. We were pretty much invincible and naturally pissed off the BLU team. This was also the time that I shot a Scout in the crotch.

Day Two: Thursday (12/17/09)
Arena: Sniperfield

KOD and I showed up on a map that was entirely dedicated to Snipers having Sniper fights. There were two per team, with me and KOD on one side, and two other douchebags on the other. At first we played fair and both played Snipers with them. Then I turned into a Spy and backstabbed a really easy to get Sniper. After a while he caught on and when he tried to fight me, he walked right into KOD's line of fire. Naturally he bitched about me using a Spy in a Sniper server, to which others (who later joined our team) responded by turning into Demomen, Pyros and Engineers. The last straw came when KOD switched to the other team and became a Heavy. The poor Sniper ended up ragequitting because he wanted "real Sniper fights.

More TM members joining. It's like Trinity Fortress 2! :o

Day Three (December 19)

KOD and I joined a server devoted to getting achievements for the Scout, played as Pyros, and set fire to everyone as soon as they respawned. Actually got a lot of Pyro Achievements!

I actually have one of those Mario drinks, starting tomorrow I'll actually have had it for a year as it was a Festivus gift and I hate energy drinks.

That aside I think the guy was referencing the games more than the Energy Drink, that and from I understand the actual E-Tank energy drink tastes awful.

I'd totally try Bonk if Valve managed to make a deal.

Last night I was playing on 2fort (lol) and I set up a sentry in the intel room right on top of the intelligence. I killed like 5 people before the enemy finally caught on and tried different stuff. They organized a triple Spy maneuver which was pretty creative I'll admit (one spy sapped my sentry while the others were cloaked, one which backstabbed me when I killed the sapping spy, and the other which took the intelligence). The sentry went down but the backstabbing spy stayed behind disguised as moi, so I shotgunned him when I walked in the room. The plan finally fell apart when they sent a demoman and blew everything up. :(

Also EVERYONE ONE OF YOU DESERVES A TACK

EDIT: So yeah right now with the mods, I have Scout as Megaman and Demoman as Link (although I'm debating whether I should replace the scrumpy with the Lon Lon Milk skin).

EDIT2: OF COURSE SOMEONE HAD TO MAKE A FAGGOT MOD FOR IT THAT WOULD MAKE ME PUKE (http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/3531/80416b.jpg) (although the Goofy Shield would be badass)

YES I UNLOCKED THE EYELANDER LAST NIGHT. So many good memories.

1) I destroyed like 13 engineer buildings undisguised simply by uncloaking for a split second, going into my knife taunt, then recloaking. Because I kept destroying their sentries this way, almost half the team went Engie and camped in the intel room.

2) This led to me and half of our team going Spy and continuously sapping their sentries.

3) This led to this one guy who got so pissed off he challenged me to an IRL fight and told me to come to New Jersey so we could finish it once and for all. He eventually rage-quitted.

4) A pyro dominated me at one point while I was playing Spy, and then I switched to Demoman and got revenge by beheading him with the Eyelander.

Right now it does the can open sound when thrown, and does the baseball bat hit sound when it hits. Debating about putting in the Scout saying "BONK" since it would be out of place without Ren doing Scout voices.

I knew a guy in college that griefed once had the entire team go Spy and cloak at the start to confuse the other team at their being nobody, then all try to simultaneously backstab everyone on the other team.

They lost and missed a few guys but it was still funny.

Yeah I'm on level two right now (Egypt, lol), and you have to switch between Scout, Heavy, and Sniper on the fly. Because only the Scout can double jump, only the Heavy can knock down brick walls, and only the Sniper can... scare rattlesnakes... yeah I dunno about that last one.

this (http://www.tf2items.com/crafting/blueprints.php) might come in handy if you want to make a class-specific hat
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Thread
Post by: Jango on April 20, 2010, 03:50:55 PM
See that's the hard part. Just getting a hat would be cool (and I could get one as soon as I get home), but there are several (http://www.tf2wiki.net/wiki/Pyro%27s_beanie) hats (http://www.tf2wiki.net/wiki/Engineer%27s_cap) I (http://www.tf2wiki.net/wiki/Magistrate%27s_mullet) don't (http://www.tf2wiki.net/wiki/Respectless_rubber_glove) want (http://www.tf2wiki.net/wiki/Texas_ten_gallon).

So roughly a 14% chance I get a shitty hat. Or I can spend another week or so trying to get items so I can make another reclaimed metal for a class that I know has the hats I want (ie: Demoman or Sniper).

The engineer update. (http://teamfortress.com/post.php?id=4026&p=1) It'll go live Thursday.

The golden wrench is got through crafting but there will only be 100 given total, period. (http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/wrenchlog/) You best haul ass if you want it 28 are already gone!

A new Shotgun replacement called "Frontier Justice" (http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/) 50% clip compared to the regular and it doesn't get normal crits... instead it gets crits whenever his sentry kills someone or gets destroyed (including self destructs).

Oh hey probably is given the golden one is just a skin and all. Didn't see that. The update page states that isn't the only melee replacement he's getting too, hmm. Well that one on the bottom looks like a community made one so it's probably just a few simple stat changes.

On another note (http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/engineer_photos/) on a hidden page Valve hints and something that could be truly disturbing. The ability to move sentries.

Yet another new payload map Thunder Mountain (http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/) which at the present I doubt anyone cares about it because of the much bigger news!

New pistol Wrench (previous pistol claim a typo on Valve's part) replacement the Gunslinger* which is the aforementioned mechanized hand thing, it gives Engineer +25 health, a three hit punch combo for melee (which always crits on the third hit) but can not use Normal Sentries while using it. Don't know whether you can upgrade other things though, it'd be kind of weird punching a dispenser you know.

Instead can place mini-Sentries (think Level 0.5) which build at quadruple speed, have full health and are cheap to build. Deals half normal damage and cannot be upgraded.

Overall good for more offensive Engineers I guess but I don't see it catching on.

Watchmaker's Wrench, the Southern Hospitality, inflicts the same bleeding condition as the Snipers shiv. But cannot crit.

As with any updates some nerfs,

Sandvich works on a cooldown timer now (although that's probably better).
Sniper's Shiv's damage and bleed out time reduced.
Gunboats reduce damage by rocket jumping by less.

Oh one last thing, Engineers CAN move buildings now regardless what they are using.

*On an incredibly tangentially related note. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYnbi6vs0mw)

Yes, you can. It's pretty bad-ass.

Yeah I unlocked Frontier Justice, Gunslinger, and Southern Hospitality, just need to get the cheapo radar gun. Also building moving isn't as cheap as it looks. Especially with sentries because they have to reupgrade themselves, so if you have a level 3 sentry, it's vulnerable for a good 5 seconds.

I LOVE THE NEW MINISENTRIES (Gunslinger)

Awesome hit and run tactics and traps with engie now possible, and annoys the shit out of the opponent.

Frontier Justice is too situational, rather not use it.

Still haven't unlocked the Wrangler yet.

Last night I was trolling some servers since everyone was trying to go engineer. I went Sniper and headshot the Engineers with the Wranglers, then shot their buildings while they waited to respawn. Also Thunder Mountain is awesome for Sniper traps, and one particular corner in the second map could possibly lead to the Heavy being unstoppable since the ammo/medpacks regenerate quite frequently. I racked up 8 kills by myself there before they took me out with an Ubered Demoman.

Valve's official winners announcement. (http://teamfortress.com/post.php?id=4076&p=1) They've seem to accept that whatever they'll do will be bitched about for being game breaking and they'll have to fix it later.

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Thread
Post by: UHMEEEEBA on August 14, 2010, 09:12:31 PM
It's a remnant of an unused class. (http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Civilian) Back in the older Team Fortress there was a mode where one team had to protect a character using a Civilian class, with like 50 hp. At one point Valve planned it for it TF2 but abandoned it. That said there was still some base data of it left that can be accessed through glitches using other classes models.

tl;dr: It's like Missingno.

That Sniper rifle is gross if you stop and thing about it, it inflicts Jarate effect but with tranq darts, therefore the Sniper is injecting people full of Jarate. Gross.

Does the Scout's fish even do anything?

Indeed, no hat-buying for me, especially since most of the hats really don't do it for me. Although I have to admit it's a nice way of Valve supporting the people that designed the new items.

On a side note... I got a Cheater's Lament out of the blue  ???

Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Thread
Post by: Jango on September 30, 2010, 06:35:01 PM
Nope, it has the "Not Tradeable" tag, although it's an event item so I guess that's to be expected.

Also upon further inspection, the older hats run cheaper with $2.49 being the minimum (which nets you Camera Beard, the bald heads, some of the smaller designs), more ballpark is $7.49. If I knew my Soldier's Stainless Steel Pot was worth as much as it is, I wouldn't have crafted it!

EDIT: Everything in your backpack prior to this update that isn't a promo now has "Vintage" before its name. "Vintage Homewrecker" in particularly seems very hilarious to me.

EDIT2: So apparently they're experiencing so much purchasing that I have to WAIT.

EDIT3: Was able to sneak in and get the Spy's new gun, but that's about it.

Crafted Shortstop, Mad Milk, The Eternal Reward and the Sydney Sleeper.

Best weapon in the update is the Scout's Shortstop. It's fucking AWESOME and goes well along with the Mad Milk, making Scout one of my main classes now.

Although I suspect they'll nerf it soon, it has no disadvantages and there's no reason to use the other shotguns :P

Spy's new knife is pretty cool for chainstabbing, no disguising is a disadvantage against sentries though.

Sydney Sleeper is great, jarate's opponent and you can now use your SMG when the opponent is jarate'd for a good amount of damage.

Haven't got the other unlocks yet, although from what I've seen the Pyro's new shit makes him really powerful and the Black Box is a cool addition to the Soldier.

Trading is great, did a few trades with a bunch of guys when I needed shit.

TF2 is now even more fun than before. :D

Black Box is alright, and the rockets travel pretty fast too.

WELL what you can do is kill someone, then run to the sentry nest and backstab the Engineer before you sap his shit, because the sentries won't pick up on you during the time delay.

Also just read the new description for the Troublemaker's Tossle Cap: TEENAGE MUTANT Straight Outta Control Point TURTLES

fucking valve is trolling me i swear

they gave me a mann-co supply crate to which i have to buy the key for, and fucking hell i'm not paying any more for tf2 than i already have i'm broke enough as it is

black box is a straight downgrade as a pocket soldier, has a little potential for roaming soldiers
the shortstop's spread and quick reload make it really fucking good, although the slowdown effect is barely noticable at all (and afaik it uses pistol bullets [citation needed])
sydney sleeper... eh, haven't used it enough to know how everything works and how good it is
your eternal reward is trash and only good for fucking around
degreaser is amazing with axtinguisher
powerjack... eh, i love the axtinguisher too much to use it seriously
mad milk is okay, haven't really used it much yet
bushwacka is a straight upgrade from both of the snipers other melee weapons imo

So finally had a chance to look at the undocumented changes (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/September_30,_2010_Patch), and the ones of interest, in case you weren't checking:

QuoteRemoved the cooldown timer from the Sandvich and the Dalokohs Bar when eating.
MAKE UP YOUR MIND, VALVE

QuoteFixed taunt glitch involving switching weapons quickly.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

QuoteAdded new currently unused "Hi-five" taunts for Demoman, Heavy, Medic, Pyro, Scout, Sniper, Soldier and Spy.
... what?

QuoteScottish Resistance now fires 25% faster and has a .2 second longer bomb arm time. (Total bomb arm time is now .8 seconds.)
Works.

QuotePyro's Airblast pushes grounded stickies approximately twice the distance now.
Great, just what we need, more pyro buffs.

QuoteThe Frontier Justice now works correctly with critical boosts.
Yay.

So tonight I was on Badwater Basin and I was on BLU. I went Engineer and set up a Lv. 3 in spawn (apparently they STILL haven't fixed that glitch), and used it as cover while I ran past RED team. Apparently their defense was pretty bad so I managed to make it past the second control point with some sneaking around. I finally passed the third control point and was like "FUCK YES I can do the fabled 'Build teleporters behind the enemy so you can flank them' maneuver!" Then their server crashed and my moment of glory was short-lived.

Also can't believe I missed this

If you didn't see it yet, Day Two unveiled Middle Eastern themes for the Sniper (YES!) and Demoman (what). Of note is that the Demoman will get shoes in this pack that will let him turn while charging, so Lei-Lei's days of uniqueness are at an end. Although my guess is that you won't be able to use the Grenade Launcher with it, rendering the Demoman useless at explosions or ranged combat in general.

The new sniper is a sniper that rewards skill. If you headshot multiple times in a row, the charge bar goes way faster.

Soldier gets TWO weapon packs, including shoes that you can actually STOMP ON PEOPLE FROM MID-AIR. Perfect with the M. Bison hat. There's also a retarded shovel replacement that crits during rocket jumps but ONLY during them.

The Scout also got an Easter Egg set which was one I wanted since the Polycount contest: the mail-in order Bonk weapons. The shotgun replacement looks to be the most evil since it allows you to build up a Kritzkrieg-like meter just by running. also lol triple-jump bat, that'll probably break so much shit.
Title: Re: Team Fortress 2 Thread
Post by: Sgt Squirrel on June 23, 2011, 03:48:06 AM
The bat gives you an extra jump, and either the pistol or the scattergun (can't recall) gives you ANOTHER extra jump. Quadruple jumps.

The FaN. Yup, even MORE fun.

As part of today's easter egg. Pyro doesn't get a pack, just the weapon that was in the beta, the Detonator. And Valve is hinting only the Engineer isn't getting an update. Which is sad because that's my favorite class.

Sam, Brock Samson, and Ash Williams at a poker table?! That alone makes up for the Borderlands and Portal characters that are going to fill the other two slots.

There's always the possibility they'll just be promotions for other things or sales on Steam.

But then Brock wouldn't make sense so you're probably right.

Well they already did have a Venture Bros. promo (Scout gets Monach Henchmen clothes and Heavy gets Brock Samson hair) for no reason outside of "Let's Have 3 costume makeovers for 3 classes that reference Adult Swim shows" (if you missed those, the others were dressing up the Heavy as Carl from ATHF, and the Pyro as Dr. Rockso from Metalocalypse, oh and a Robot Chicken hat for the Pyro but fuck that).

So mmmmmmmmaybe you're right about that.

As much as I love Brock Samson, I can't help but feel a little sad that it isn't Carl from ATHF

Seriously do you have any idea how perfect Carl would be for a Poker Night game
