All things considered this should not be surprising given how well Mega Man 9 did. (http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ac4b0b888bd59e204b087a27c9f6d2ce&topic=3071.0) It was announced in Nintendo Power. It like Mega Man 9 will be in a retro faux 8 bit style. This announcement DID come out of nowhere and was a pleasant surprise when I got back as I've been out most of this evening.

And while I cannot speak for people here I'd rather have this then say Battle Network 2 getting ported to the DS with one new scenario. Also it ends all the stupid Mega Man X = Mega Man 10 theories. It's worth pointing out the thread on Rockman PM got more replies in the time it's been announced than OSS ever did so I'm not alone in this.

Anyways Mega Man is out to get a cure for a virus that causes robots to overheat and go crazy. Before you start saying OMG X SERIES TIE IN, I'd like to point out how many people thought nine would do the same thing.

Proto Man is playable FROM THE START and a third character will be as well. Given how much bitching there was about his lack of appearance in nine this is likely Bass/Forte. Hopefully they'll actually play differently.

Only one robot master seems announced at this time, Sheep Man which is pretty lame looking. Sheep Man is an electric boss for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who has ever worn a wool coat on a dry day and took it off too quickly. He's not the best design but it's new at least which is a step in the right direction from nine's OH HEY THIS ISN'T GUTSMAN AND NEEDLEMAN, WE SWEAR.

One stage has a computer theme with evil mouse cursors that draw boxes on you no I am not making this shit up.

There will be an ice stage.

It's a fairly safe bet at least one more Robot Master will be female, as they originally wanted to make Hornet Man a woman but didn't because they thought people would hate Splash Woman enough as is. Well given that people for the most part didn't hate her I wouldn't be surprised if there is more than one this time around.

It'll probably be like the Easy Mode they put back in the Anniversary Collection back for the Gamecube/PS2/XBOX combined with what they did for the ZX series (given that this is likely still being done by the same group) that is to say it will half the damage done by anything, possibly give free Beat Whistles and make spikes/lava/Instant Kill Beams/etc. simply deal a large quantity of damage instead of instant kills.

On a completely unrelated note, apparently the new lava stage is vertical, probably like Elec Man's but with lava, oh joy.

So to keep track we have:
An Ice Boss
A Fire/Lava/etc. Boss
An Electric Boss (Sheep Man, in fairness this actually kinda makes sense unlike Clown Man)
Some sort of computer themed Boss

I'm a bit surprised they didn't give all the boss names as they did with Mega Man 9's press release.

They wouldn't announce it if all they had was a sketch.

That and the guy has about as much to do with making Mega Man games as Miyamoto does with Mario games, which is to say not as much as he used to.

Heck I don't think he designed most of the Mega Man 9 bosses so Sheep Man's probably not even something he made.

It will have no relation to Mega Man X.
Bass will be DLC and will play like he did in Mega Man & Bass.
Some sort of 2 player mode.

Well we haven't had an explosive based one since eight unless you count Pirate Man I guess.

There will be a desert stage with sandstorms that obscure vision and blow you around.

... a sports themed stadium stage with a soccer goalie as a mid boss... oh god please don't go all backwards battle network on us and make a classic version of Grid Man.EXE he was LAME.

A sewer stage.

Hard Mode is now a feature instead of DLC. And yes there will be an easy mode.

Will release in March.

No sliding or charge shots as Mega Man, Proto Man can use both however but given how he played in nine... well yeah...

Challenges return.

As does the shop.

No female Robot Master as all the bosses this time around where designed by the dev team and not Inafune (who designed Splash Woman)... and apparently they wanted a sausage fest. Guess we'll have to wait until Mega Man 18 until we get the next one at this rate.

Know we know and knowing is half the battle.

Sewer Boss
Desert Boss
Computer Boss
Stadium Themed Boss

Unless the bosses are pretty weird like Sheep Man this is looking to be the most cliched group of Mega Man bosses ever.

Edit: On Hard Mode Commando Man should totally be able to do Captain Commando's supers just for shits and giggles, it'd be awesome.

I think Gas Man would be fun. You use a fire or electric weapon and nobody survives.

I wonder if Forte will have dash, though.


No charge shot for Rock again? Y'know, maybe I can see where they're going with this. X could charge any weapon. Perhaps they're not just trying to differentiate Rock and Blues, but so X at least looks like he has better features.

Isn't it spelled with two o's?

I remember reading something back before Mega Man 9 was released was that the decision to axe the charge shot was in part due to them wanting to make special weapons seem better.

Which kind of is a valid concern I guess as some of the games special weapons where pretty much only useful on bosses... like 6's which barring Silver Tomahawk most of the weapons well sucked.

That aside I think it should at least be an unlockable option personally, Powered Up got it right after all.

So with better quality scans here's a bit more on the bosses:

Commando Man has Guts Man's and Concrete Man's earthquake jump... for some reason... he really doesn't look THAT bulky to me. He also has homing attacks, which is probably the weapon you get from killing him.

Sheep Man can split himself into four duplicates (really? what?) that hover and attack where you can't reach them... you know flying sheep... this seems familiar some how... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkw2DdoskPY) I'd take it he's weak to the weapon you get from Commando Man then. His weapon is Thunder Wool which flies up at an angle.

So Famitsu's out with some new info and screenshots (http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2009/12/mega-man-10-coming-to-all-three-home.html)... but it hasn't been fully scanned or translated entirely yet. That link though says it'll have more info as it develops.

But what they have revealed is the game will be for all three consoles, no real surprise there and that the games japanese subtitle is "Threat from outer space!". Maybe this will end up being a tie in to Mega Man V (the Gameboy one) as Sunstar was created by some ancient space civilization or some crap. I really doubt that though because it's a really minor thing to follow up on.

Expect a bit more information from this one in a few days I guess.

Proto Man's mode does not need to be unlocked, it's available from the start.

So Wily is on their side, because he didn't do the same exact thing in 3 or to an extent 9. Yeah Capcom just make Wily the villain from the start it goes better. Only thing to really note in the Wily screen is the blue thing in the background is the infamous Wily UFO which apparently has broken down.

There is apparently a castle stage too, which means that either Sheep Man or Commando Man is the boss of one of the other stages as that's nine stages so yeah. The only one that really even begins to make sense is having Commando Man the boss of the desert... which would be in exceptionally poor taste.

Also has a screen of the mid boss of the sports level a sentient soccer goal, no really.

Triple post for some information from a Inafune question event.

Sheep Man is the boss of the computer stage. Said stage has a lightbulb miniboss and has color based platforming puzzles among other things.

Commando Man is the boss of the desert stage.

You can now switch weapons without pausing.

Easy Mode adds extra platforms throughout the game notably over spiked areas.

W Tanks return.

Apparently the flashed outlines of the bosses but it went too fast for anyone to notice anything besides the fact one has a sword.

Shield Attackers have a new design and are blue, while not much of a big deal they've always been red before.

Some Sheep Man stage footage, the guy fails then tries on easy and well...



And Proto Man in Commando Man's stage. It blatantly reuses the sand from Mega Man 4's Pharaoh Man's stage.



So with this new information a boss count:

Sheep Man in the computer stage.
Commando Man in the desert stage.
The boss of the ice stage.
The boss of the fire stage.
The boss of the sewer stage.
The boss of the castle stage.
The boss of the stadium stage.
?

Unrelated to MM 10:

He still wants to make Legends 3.

He says he's too busy to make a new X series game and that before he makes a return to that he wants to do something completely crazy with the Mega Man franchise first, then if he has the time he might consider an X9.

When asked about making a faux retro 16 bit game he said he likes keeping it 8 bit because it lets him do things he could never do back for the old 8 bit games.

He thinks makes a high graphics X game would be nice but he would feel like he doesn't want to rip off other peoples art styles.

He says there is a very strong possibility of seeing a Powered Up 2 someday.

Japanese website just went live, (http://=http://www.capcom.co.jp/rockman/10/movie.html) no like literally at the time I'm writing this it. It has a trailer shown at the event with the boss outlines.

There is a night city stage, perhaps Fake Man got promoted to full boss?

Boss of one of the sports stage appears to look VERY similar to Air Man. From the looks of it he's probably a football player.

Boss of one of the stages with a car, doesn't really look like anything. Countdown bombs are present in his stage but they where in Blizzard Man's too back in 6. He's the boss of the stage that hasn't been announced yet.

Boss of the fire stage doesn't look like much of anything

Boss of the sewer stage looks like he has a mohawk or something.

Boss of the ice stage has a pointed head, Icicle Man? That'd be sort of lame seeing how we already had Ice Man...

The aforementioned sword using boss has a blade on his head too, maybe some one on the dev team heard of the horrible PC Mega Man 3 and decided to redesign Blade Man. Furthermore he appears to be the boss of the castle stage.

A midboss that is two birds that have Heat Man's old fire dash.

Also I don't like the way you worded that Fusion as there were two co-op Mega Man games, they were called Power Battles and Power Fighters, ever hear of them?

Turns out Blade Man's design is a rather blatantly retooled one that was submitted back to the Nintendo Power Mega Man 6 contest that Knight Man and Wind Man won. (http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2010/01/mm10s-blade-man-solar-man-inspired-by.html)

Normally I'd say it's a coincidence but the three swords, one of which is on his head/is his head, the color scheme AND THE NAME make it a bit too similar...

There's also a claim for Solar Man too but I really don't see the similarity.

The mid-boss of Blade Man's stage is the castle robot from the promotional video it's weak point is its eyes.

All the weapons revealed (http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2010/02/new-mega-man-10-screenshots-weapons.html), a new "challenge" mode in addition to the challenges like in MM9. You can do certain stages with various challenges (this actually isn't new it was in Complete Works too). It looks like they're specifically for this mode.

As for the weapons we have:

Blade Man's weapons which shoots three projectiles... wow BLADE Man gives you the multi-projectile weapon...

Commando Man's which is the bastard love child of Drill Bomb and Gyro Attack. The resulting explosion follows the landscape.

Strike Man's weapon which seems to be Wheel Gator's from MMX2, but you can hold it and shove it in enemies faces.

Sheep Man's weapon which launches a cloud that rains down lighting.

Solar Man's weapon which is pretty much the same as Pharaoh Man's from Power Fighters, but with a delay.

Chill Man's weapon... which is just Ice Slasher at a different angle. Nice creativity Capcom.

Strike Man's weapon which is Mega Ball from MM8 but with directional aiming like Metal Blade. THIS PLEASES ME GREATLY.

PUMP MAN'S WEAPON, THE OBLIGATORY SHIELD WEAPON, NOW WATER FLAVORED. GOD CAPCOM HOW MANY OF THESE HAVE YOU DONE NOW.

This weapon set sort of sucks.

Blade Man appears to be weak to Chill Man's weapon.

Strike Man appears to be weak to Sheep Man's weapon (makes sense he'll run into the thunder).

Pump Man appears to be weak to Blade Man's weapon... ok if that's true Splash Woman being weak to bees can now stand aside as there's a new most retarded weakness in the series.

Oh release dates:

Wii Ware: March 1st
PSN: March 11th
X-Box Live: March 31st

Gee Capcom way to piss on X-Box users.

Mega Man and Dr. Light are still idiots in the intro.

Has probably the best sounding 8 bit rendition of the boss selected fare.

New crawling Mets that shoot purple blobs that attach, and I am assuming, slow down Mega Man.

Blade Man's mid-boss sort of reminds me of one the fortress bosses from Mega Man 5, you have to jump on platforms to shoot its eyes.

IGN hands on, (http://wii.ign.com/articles/107/1070442p1.html) they note that the main game will have 16 stages, so either they brought back the two fortress system, the Doc Robots, or Dr. Wily has one hell of a fortress this time around. IGN themselves doesn't know.

They state Mega Man 10 is harder than 9, but watching their videos I wouldn't exactly trust them.

Hard Mode has to be unlocked.

There will be 88 challenges in challenge mode.

So last week I uploaded a video of Dudley's voice over Mega Man footage, and on the same day Dudley was confirmed in SSFIV, an amusing coincidence.

Today I uploaded a video of Mega Man V for the Game Boy and commented that Tango, Mega Man's robotic cat, had faded into obscurity outside of a token reference in Mega Man & Bass's CD Database.

Well today people scouring through images found a Tango sprite randomly placed on the games wide screen borders. (http://www.themmnetwork.com/2010/02/21/getting-geeky-mega-man-10-image-analysis/) Also a sprite of Mega Man sneezing, oh nooooooo.

Also lots of sprites of various enemies in the game. While I'm still reading through the article here's what I've just noticed by looking at them:

Purple shield-less Sniper Joes.
The bird enemies from Air Man's stage that drop eggs, although different looking.
Metal Man's drill enemies with new sprites.
Walking Met's are back.
As are the helicopter Mets from Mega Man 3.

Yeah I would recommend you NOT to start with Nitro Man's stage. Or Blade Man, he's an ass without his weakness.

Beat the eight Robot Masters and here's some impressions/info:

Weakness Chain: Sheep < Pump < Solar < Chill < Nitro? < Commando < Blade < Strike? < Sheeep

Not sure on Nitro and Strike but they're the only ones out. Strike man is also slightly weak to Nitro Man's weapon.

Bolt rate drop is MUCH higher than in nine, to the point where I had four E-tanks after beating the first guy!

Blade Man is weak to Commando Bomb's EXPLOSION not the Bomb itself.

Pump Man tends to interrupt Thunder Wool's attack, making it hard to use on him.

Pump Man, Commando Man and Wily 1 have alternate stage routes.

Thus far there only seems to be one castle with five stages, hmm.

In the first castle stage at least (had to take a break) Wily has created a machine to copy DEAD ROBOT MASTERS. The first one can be Elec Man, Wood Man or Gemini Man, and the second one can be either Ring Man, Napalm Man or Flame Man. They seem to retain similar weakness, i.e. Elec Man is weak to Nitro Man's wheel and Wood Man and Ring Man are weak to Solar Man's weapon.

The Robot Master stages strike me as a bit gimmicky, and I'm not fond of the weapons just yet.

I'll have more impressions later but I had to take a break.

More impressions now that I've finished it, I'll make a larger list later.

After the MM4-6 guys you fight Slash Man, Frost Man and Tornado Man. By the way Elec Man's thunder beam still stings like hell. Slash Man is oddly NOT weak to the ice weapon, I remembered after the fact he's weak to Turbo Man's weapon in seven too so he's probably weak to Solar Man's.

The second Wily Castle boss is a GIANT ENEMY CRAB, and then you battle it.

The third Wily Castle boss is YET another Devil incarnation (these are seriously getting as overplayed as the shields now), Block Devil who is sort of like that one boss in MM2 that fly out of the wall, but like a devil too. So he takes parts of the wall (and floor, by the way there is a pit) and combines with those. He's weak to Blade Man's weapon.

Wily Machine X is a pirate ship. After beating it you go to another short stage and fight Wily's Capsule again, he's mixed it up by having a clone.

So in all five Wily stages, which leaves three unaccounted for, they're probably Special Stages, I'd like to point out Mega Man is oddly missing three weapons on the pause screen, Capcom could have easily cropped things and placed "Item" in the unused slot to fill the whole grid.

No ground shaking plot revelations towards the X series, which honestly I don't think Capcom will ever do as it'd end the classic series and I don't see Capcom doing that.

Some more DLC stuff (http://protodudesrockmancorner.blogspot.com/2010/03/mm10-dlc-revealed-bass-confrmed-as.html), it confirms yes Bass is the third guy and plays like he did in MM&B and has "different abilities". Three Special Stages, and the return of Endless Attack, all due in April.

Well not quite, the robots simply copies their attacks, sort of like Doc Robot only with ADD in that they can send 1 of three guys at you. Even then most of them use only a few of their techniques or have a VERY exaggerated pattern, notably the Ring Man one which is SIGNIFICANTLY slower than his MM4 counterpart. Would have liked fourth set with some Game Boy or Wily Tower guys but whatver.

It's still a pretty clever idea for a Wily level and had me more or less say OH SHIT a few times (Elec Man, Ring Man and Napalm Man). Makes the Doc Robots look like jokes.

Going to be starting up a larger impressions thread here in a bit.

Also,

Punk is going to actually be EASIER as they can't take into consideration you have the slide so he'll only be able to do his low dashing attack instead of randomly choosing between the high and low one. If MMV is any indication Punk will be weak to Water Shield.

I imagine Ballade will probably also get nerfed a bit... but he has sprites of his second form, maybe you fight him twice in the same stage. If MMV is any indication Ballade will be weak to Commando Bomb.

Enker like always will probably only be damaged by the Mega Buster. I'm interested to see how his pattern will translate to a much wider screen, either he'll be able to jump even farther or he'll jump multiple times.

Bass's shop is run by Reggae Wily's obscure bird who only has had a few cameos throughout the series. Bass can make a "Treble Item Number 3", dunno what it does. Treble Rescue which I guess Bass's Beat Call (get's him out of a pit?). He starts with Treble Boost from Mega Man & Bass but doesn't have a coil.

Yeah he does.

Just started Hard Mode, enemies are faster and some act different (the return of the Game Boy jumping Sniper Joe variant notably). Bosses have a new attack, Chill Man can jump up to the middle of the screen and shoots Chill Spikes in five different directions at once. He's still easy though and I killed him first.

Capcom has themselves announced the content of the three special stages ahead of time (http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2010/03/22/mega_man_10_special_time_attack_stages_and_bosses_revealed!), although most people knew of the bosses from hacking it does show a few screens and all three of them have new artwork.

So with that in mind I'm not going to censor spoilers anymore.

You do appear to get their three respective weapons upon their defeat somehow, and are shown used in the regular game not time trials. I mention "somehow" as hackers who tried to use them with Proto Man or Bass were met with a nice game crash, so I guess those two just got shafted. This also makes the weapon set much better as it gives a reflecting shield, an exploding Metal Blade, and a curving weapon.

Enker's stage is full of spikes and even has a mole segment very similar to his stage in Wily's Revenge. As a bit of a quasi homage, I guess, his boss door is in the ceiling as most of the stages in Wily's Revenge had you drop into the boss room. The tileset for Enker's stage is based on his Wily's Revenge stage, that mole segment is burned into my mind. The flooring in his boss room appears to be new.

Punk's stage is full of those bomb enemies that jump out of pits. Punk's stage uses the same tileset as his Mega Man III one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84OvZXcEq28), I noticed because the machine in the background is in the same spot. Punk's stage in MMIII was a straight walk to a boss fight so it looks like they're improvising.

By the way, if you ever thought Metal Blade was broken for it's energy consumption rate Punk's weapon can be fired 224 times in Mega Man III without having to refill it, the best energy consumption rate in the entire series.

Ballade's stage is full of conveyer belts and other traps and is billed as a stage specifically for Mega Man pros. They mention he doesn't give up when he's about to die so he probably has his two forms. As you probably guessed by now, his stage is using the tileset of his first Mega Man IV stage. Ballade's two stages in MMIV where basically a short path to his boss fight like Punk so again they're improvising.
